Transformation

Quilters reuse fabrics, giving them new life and purpose. We look at tablecloths, work shirts, blankets and curtains as wonderful resources. As contemporary artists we also look to a more diverse array of materials that can be transformed: paper, denim, toys, burlap, found objects, plastic, bottle caps, etc. We have even seen band-aids used in a quilt! The medium is the message. Think about what you want to say (story, feeling, commentary) and how the thoughtful selection of recycled materials will give voice to your concept.

Repurposing used materials is a way to lesson the carbon footprint of creating artwork. It can also be a way to honor those artists we borrow from, by bringing new life to beautifully embroidered pillow cases or a much loved quilt. No age limit, deadline April 30, four entries.  I have made some changes to the requirements for this show, to encourage your enthusiastic entries!  There is no age limit for art you submit to the show.  All pieces containing 50-100% recycled materials are eligible. There is no minimum dimension. Maximum on any side is 60 inches. 3-D works of art are also encouraged, with the base of the piece not bigger than 11 X 15 inches.

Enter April 19 – 30, 2022.

• Write a short description of the materials and techniques used in your piece. (This is NOT an artist statement)
• Send one full and one detail image of each piece entered. Label full image with title, dimensions. Label detail image with title, detail.
• You may enter four works of art.
  
• Size images 72 dpi and 2100 pixels on the long side.
• Send short descriptions and images to joansowada@gmail.com with FRCQ entry in the subject line.
  

Our juror for Transformation was Jennifer Lee Morrow. The show will be seen at PACE in Parker, CO June 1 – July 29, 2022.  https://parkerarts.org/

Exhibit Schedule

• Deliver or ship to PACE by May 27
• Quilts unpacked and processed on May 31
• June 1, 2022. Exhibit opens at PACE
• Article about the show in July issue of DARIA
• Artist reception as part of First Friday July 1st.
• July 29, 2022. Exhibit closes.
