About Marianne

Marianne was born in California but grew up in Geneva Switzerland. She started taking art lessons at 15 and spent 2 years in Paris studying art history. This classical education served as a good foundation for the degree in Art from L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Geneva, Switzerland. After graduation, she lived in Tanzania and in several U.S. states.

Marianne’s textiles have been accepted into major Art Quilt Shows all over the US and abroad. She has been juried into 2021 SAQA Impressions of Oceania and Light the World exhibits, Quilt National 2019, and had 2016 Solo Show with 14 pieces in conjunction with the IQF Chicago and also IQF Houston. She is also a Juried Member of Studio Quilters Association (SAQA). Visit Marianne’s website for more information on her work and exhibits. Her website is https://www.movinthreads.com/.

The Workshop

FRCQ member, Marianne Williamson, will be giving a workshop on how light affects art. This workshop will help you understand light in your work and how the elements and principals of a piece are not determined by a tangible object. Rather, elements and principals are determination as a result of an artist’s personal impression, interpretation, time of day, and mood.

Through the use of fabric, quilting, thread, beads and paints, Marianne layers her vision into an artistic concept in fiber art.

Marianne will demonstrate how the art piece begins using inspiration images. By adding movement and light plus shadows you get effects that might be new to you. Wind, water cascading over rocks, forest trees that show shadows, leaves that sway in the breeze, even an abstract using close ups so one can see the movement but not the subject is an interesting subject.

Each student will receive individual attention during this workshop.
