Info: What you’re trying to do, is clear away the clutter of what you’ve inherited from the tradition that you’re working in. Richard Serra
Just how do we build upon our skills and history and still move forward into what is our distinct voice? In this course we will explore various methods of making marks and expanding on them in stitch to develop a compendium of stitches that are personal to each artist. We will explore how to do things wrong, how to make a complete mess, experiment, fail and discover new ideas. This is not a project class but rather an exploration of technique, voice and mark. Additional discussion about developing a daily practice for further exploration during the workshop.
About Liz: Liz’s work explores fabric and stitch, texture and rhythm. She is fascinated by the simple structure of the grid and its prevalence in our world. To her the grid represents both the physical structures that surround us as well as the pulse of our society and our attempts to bring order to chaos. Liz is inspired by many things but the rhythm of the natural world and the human mind weave their way into her work with consistency.
