Disperse Dying: Using Disperse Dyes to Transfer Images onto Fabrics
Date: February 8, 2020, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
About Valerie: An award winning Fiber Artist, Valerie has been creating quilts for almost twenty years. She is a retired Art educator from the District of Columbia Public Schools in Washington D.C. and she continues to share her passion for textiles, through teaching and presenting lectures nationally. “I am first and foremost, a storyteller. I have specific ideas and messages I want to express in my Art. I work with intent. My goal is to create Art that suggests new considerations for objects that are mundane and familiar. As a multi-media artist, I have chosen to express myself using textile. This multi-media approach includes textile paint, dye, and markers as well as removing and adding color. The process of layering in cloth is what particularly attracts me in. I’m attempting to produce cloth that is mysterious; the idea of seeing almost invisible images created by color and stitch intrigues me”. Valerie has exhibited her work nationally and internationally; and has been the featured artist in several prominent magazines such as Quilters World and Quilting Arts.
Course Description: Upon completion of this mini workshop participants will create and investigate a variety of Disperse Dye techniques. To include: Scrunch Printing, Plastic Wrap, Mono printing, stamping, stencils and Paint brush. This surface design class will add yet another tool for creating exciting multi-media textile design. Designed to appeal to all levels to include beginners and experienced artists.
