April 11,12, 13, 14, 15, 2022 (Monday – Friday)
About Sue: An innovator in her field, Sue Benner creates complex dyed and painted textiles combined with recycled fabrics to form collaged fields of pattern, color, and beauty. Her work is shown world-wide in galleries, US embassies and museums including the International Quilt Study Center and Museum, National Quilt Museum, Neville Public Museum and the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art.
The Workshop: Monoprinting with textile paints can dramatically change the surface of your work, pushing your ideas into new creative territory. Using her fusible collage methods, Sue Benner will demonstrate how to paint and print at different levels of construction, from manipulating a single piece of fabric to the entire surface of the quilt. PowerPoint presentations, demonstrations, and handouts are included in this workshop.
Starting with a color scheme, photographs, sketches, and images as inspiration, and incorporating experimentation with opaque and metallic paints, each participant will have the opportunity to create two works: one abstract and open-ended, the other more realistic and image-based. See her work on her website: https://www.suebenner.com/
