Sand Creek – Before And After
The use of the before and after Sand Creek images created a challenge of perspective in honoring the Indian heritage. The use of color in “Before” to the monochromatic images in “After” ask the viewer when we will learn to honor and respect others.
Seen And Heard
The use of light and shadow in representing two distinct individuals who are listening, respecting, and interacting with one another. They are truly not invisible and moving into closer proximity.
The calm and strength of the white line, standing straight and tall, while interacting with the groupings of the white circles creates the question – can we securely stand on our own while knowing our need for interdependence and vulnerability with others? Will we be a united tribe or use tribalism to judge and reject others?
Face It – The Juror’s Choice Award
The profound use of faces to express a challenge for the needed internal change in prospective is beautifully portrayed in Sue Lewis’ art, “Face It”.
