WEN REDMOND

Digital Explorations in Fiber and Mixed Media

Friday-Sunday, 9am-4pm

April 13 – 15, 2018

About This Workshop:

Expand your vision of a digital print.  Participants will be introduced to inkjet printing on fiber and mixed media substrates.  The types of substrates that can be used are nearly limitless.  Explore the possibilities!  There are many opportunities for serendipitous results.  Based on Wen’s new book- with CT Publishing-“Digital Fiber Art:  Combine Photos and Fabric, Create Your Own Mixed-Media Masterpiece”.

General knowledge of Photoshop or a similar editing program is helpful but not necessary.  You will be asked to bring a small printer, with capacity to accommodate a USB stick or laptop computer hookup.  One printer can be shared among 2-3 people.  The focus is on experimentation and construction!

About Wen:  Wen Redmond has worked in the fiber field since 1973, when she made her first intuitive pieced art quilt.  Her work merges digital processes, photography, collage and surface design; an unusual use of fiber.  She has completed the above mentioned book on her processes.  “Layers peeled back reveal the source, the inspiration, and my mad desire to capture thoughts, dreams and the beauty of nature.”

Workshop:  Digital Explorations in Fiber and Mixed Media

Dates: April 13-15 (Friday-Sunday), 2018

Location: American Mountaineering Center,  710 10th St., Golden, CO 80401

Cost:  $270.00 plus a material fee of $45.00 or $30.00 if you bring your own printer.  NOTE,  the printer is a part of this workshop in the same way a sewing machine is part of a quilting workshop.

Printer, inks and manual- A simple inexpensive printer will do the trick!  Again, the printer is a part of this workshop in the same way a sewing machine is part of a quilting workshop.

Recommended- Epson. Do not bring a printer that uses heat for printing like a laser printer or copier. There are also small portable printers available. Sometime you can find them used on Ebay.

Printer suggestions 8/25/2017 (subject to change) –http://fiberartgoddess.blogspot.com/2017/01/inexpensive-epson-printer.html

Please Note- If you are unable to bring a small inexpensive printer, you may not be able to print at your own pace or have everything printed within the workshop.

Test your printer ahead of time to be sure you can print with it in class! Try printing 4x6 photos so you can print this size in class. Bring a tested cord to connect printer and computer.

Computer to run printer- Some printers can print wirelessly i.e. Bluetooth, with cell phones and iPads. This is dependent on each situation, whether there is wireless and if you can get a signal- please don’t depend on this!

DO have your photos on a USB stick that can be used with any printer, just in case. Some printers also have built-in-card-memory-card slots. Test either of these to be sure it is functioning! NOTE- If you bring your own computer and printer, omit above instructions and have photos ready on your own computer. Ideal!
