About This Workshop:
An experimental workshop to explore the character and qualities of paper, textile and other found material as a surface for working. A focus on stitching as an extension of mark making and making a line, and various means of attaching and joining including simple bonding methods with paste. Some of the methods will be Japanese in origin. An introduction to momigami, Japanese crinkled papers. You will need calico, cotton or similar to stitch on as well as paper and basic drawing/painting materials.
Cas Holmes is interested in the connections between land, place and environment. Trained in fine art, her works in mixed media and found materials are best described as ‘cloth paintings with stitch’. This is reflected in her publications the most recent being Textile Landscape’ (2018) and ‘Stitch Storries (2015)
