About This Workshop:

An experimental workshop to explore the character and qualities of paper, textile and other found material as a surface for working. A focus on stitching as an extension of mark making and making a line, and various means of attaching and joining including simple bonding methods with paste. Some of the methods will be Japanese in origin. An introduction to momigami, Japanese crinkled papers.  You will need calico, cotton or similar to stitch on as well as paper and basic drawing/painting materials.

What Students Will Achieve:

An understanding of the qualities of found materials as a means to aid design work and for direct use in textiles. Creative exploration which could be used as a starting point for student’s own practice for textile based work and mixed media, collage, stitching, 3-D, books or sculptural work. You will have produced a range of samples or individual piece/s at the end of the workshop which you can continue to add to and develop.
