August 20, 2018 –  Eric Matelski

***August 20, 2018 meeting will be held at The MAC***
The MAC/Hyland Hills Park & Rec Center
8801 N. Pecos Street
Federal Heights, Co. 80260

Through a series of examples of his own work in various mediums, he will show how forcing yourself to loosen up can help you create more refined work.
Over the last several years, Eric has been involved in the Denver Chalk Art Festival, Painted live at music venues and Festival of Trees to raise money for ArtReach and KUVO, painting portraits of local Jazz musicians at Dazzle Jazz, and then began curating art exhibits at local restaurants and clubs and teaching for ArtReach.
Eric has been instrumental in the growing popularity of our First Friday Art Walks in the Denver area.  In 2008 he was named by Denver as one of the city’s 150 unsung heros for his work in the Denver Art Community and in 2010, he was awarded a MasterMind award from Westward. .
Some of Eric’s first memories as a child in Chicago were making art. His mother was an artist and his father would always supply him with plenty of paper for drawing. In grade school he would attend special art classes over the summer to learn different mediums. Then in high school he started working on larger scales doing set designs and lighting for three different theaters. At this time he also worked as an intern doing rough sculpting for Evolution Studios.
In 1992, shortly after his 18th birthday, Eric packed his bags and moved to Colorado to study industrial design at the Art Institute. By 1994, he was burned out and thought he might never do art again. That lasted only a couple years. He then started spending his nights drawing until the sun came up. By 1999 he was painting again. In 2001, he started painting live at music shows. He hasn’t stopped since!
His passion for bringing art to the community shows in everything he does.  Please join us to hear his story, see some of his work and be inspired to get involved!
