Ana Maria Hernando – June 17, 2019
Artist Ana Maria Hernando comes to Boulder by way of Buenos Aires, bringing with her a deep respect for the handiwork of Latin American women, which she often incorporates into feminine fiber installations evoking cultural traditions of collaboration and celebration. Painting, drawing and printmaking all have a place in her art-making arsenal, and as a poet and translator, Hernando also paints with words. Through Hernando’s pan-American point of view she takes on the topics of flowers and female labor showing just how hard, meticulous and meditative some women’s work can be – by making her art “hard and meticulous”. She has a tendency to “jump into a pool while it is still being filled with water, hoping it will be full by the time it’s her turn to dive in.”
The two installation photos are from her 2016 exhibit at CU Art Museum in Boulder called “We have Flowers”
