Speaker: Carol Watkins
Seeing Nature, Creating Art
Carol has found inspiration for her distinctive fiber art works in the beauty nature. She begins with a photo, manipulates it digitally, and prints on cloth. The art quilt is completed with free motion machine stitching. In this program, Carol will take you for a walk, figuratively, to show you what she sees, then she will share her creative process finally showing the completed work. You will walk away from this presentation with a new sense of how to use images of nature in your art quilts.

Becoming an Artist from the Inside Out
Many artists when establishing themselves are struggling with the complexities of artist statements, bios and portfolios. In reality, when establishing oneself as an artist it is the internal characteristics that will determine success. Creating an artist persona for oneself that includes confidence, a sense of mystery and openness to inspiration are key to claiming the role of artist. Greg will guide us through the steps of creating our own "artist persona".

Speaker: Lloyd Rich
What's Mine, What's Yours, and How to Tell the Difference
From the first cave drawings to the most sophisticated photo transfer processes, artists have always copied and learned from artists that have come before them. But where do you draw the line between creating something that is totally yours (perhaps inspired by other's work) and simply doing a version of someone else's creation. Lloyd is an attorney, specializing in copyright, trademarks, fair use and contracts. Interpreting the law, Lloyd will give us advice so we can create art quilts without fear of infringing on other artist's rights.
